Academic Qualifications

Shan was an Australian Scholar at the University of Adelaide for his master's studies in Applied Economics.  Shan holds a number of master' s-level qualifications in Professional Accounting (University of Adelaide), Applied Economics (University of Adelaide), Public Administration (Madurai Kamaraj University, India), and Economics (Madurai Kamaraj University, India). He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (University of South Australia) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) (University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka).

Vocational Qualifications

Shan also possesses several Australian vocational qualifications, including an Advanced Diploma of Accounting, a Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking Management, a Diploma of Financial Planning and a Diploma in Training and Assessment.

Professional Memberships

Shan is a practising fellow of the Institute of Public Accountants Australia (IPA) and a member of the Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA), the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) and the Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia (MFAA). He is also a former member of Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) Australia.

Professional Accreditations

Shan is an Australian Tax Practitioner Board (TPB) and Australian Tax Office (ATO) approved Tax Practitioner and an Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) Registered ASIC practitioner. He is also an MFAA-accredited commercial mortgage licence holder with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, National Australian Bank, ANZ, Westpac, and twenty other banks in Australia.

South Australian State Awards

Shan has received several awards for his academic and professional work in Australia. This includes being a Finalist in the South Australian Government Training Award for "Trainer of the Year" for two consecutive years. He has also received other awards from the Government of South Australia over the years, including the Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award, Excellence in Business Sustainability Award, and Excellence in Innovation Award.

Industry Experience

Since 1990, Shan has worked in the accounting and finance sector and has wide-ranging expertise in income tax for individuals and businesses. In addition to developing tax minimisation strategies, he has extensive experience in Goods and Services Tax (GST), Fringe Benefits Tax, Capital Gain Tax, Payroll Tax, Luxury Car Tax and Wine Equalization Tax. He also provides advice on business restructuring and wealth creation strategies.

Academic Experience

Shan was the Principal Lecturer of the Faculty of Accounting and Finance with TAFE South Australia for over twelve years. Before this, Shan lectured in Public Finance at the Faculty of Economics, University of Adelaide.

Shan performed several key educational roles with TAFE SA, including: 

  • Lecturer in Charge of Income Tax and Business Tax courses, including developing training resources and mentoring other lecturers.
  • Managed the Faculty of Accounting Finance's regional and metropolitan TAFESA campuses across South Australia.
  • Established the TAFE SA- University pathway with fourteen Australian universities for local and international delivery
  • Established international affiliation with the Guangzhou University, China
  • Developed a customised accounting training program for regional South Australian (SA) small to medium-level businesses and delivered it to fifty-four regional SA locations. This initiative was acknowledged by TAFESA senior management and the Minister of Skills and Training Commission South Australia.
  • Developed and delivered Income Business Tax and Income Tax Law courses approved by the Australian Taxation Office and Australian Tax Practitioners Board to meet the educational requirements for registered tax agents and BAS agents across Australia. Over two thousand students completed these courses.
  • Lectured Australian Business Tax for a South Australian Government affiliate studies program at the University of Hanoi, Vietnam.
  • Developed an online delivery methodology for all the Accounting and Finance courses for one thousand eight hundred regional students in South Australia to be able to complete their qualifications. This model was adopted nationally, enabling over five thousand students to complete their qualifications annually.

Corporate Experience

  • Shan's corporate career commenced as the Principal Accountant and Director (2017-to date) of Premier Tax & Bookkeeping (PTB). He has extensive experience providing accounting and taxation services for businesses and individuals and has developed an innovative, unique business model for PTB's accounting and taxation services. After seven years of operations, PTB has over eighteen thousand clients across all states and territories and over two hundred fifty contractors working across Australia.
  • Shan is an Executive Director of Premier Property Development Group (2021 to date), which comprises six property development companies with an over $110 million investment portfolio.
  • Shan is also an Executive Director of Premier Group Imports (2024), which imports goods from China to the Australian market and has an annual turnover of over AUD 4 million.
  • Shan worked as Chief Financial Officer at Camperagent Group (2018-2024), Australia's leading Caravan Motorhome business with an annual turnover of $850 million.
  • Shan is the Chief Financial Manager at Servicing SA (2018—to date), one of the major service providers for the South Australian Department of Education.
  • Shan is the Chief Accountant for AIG Securities Group (2020—to date), the largest Melbourne-based security company with over $350 million in annual turnover.

International Tax Experiences

  • Shan is an International Tax Advisor at Ashmark Investments (2022 to date), an Australian-based medical equipment supplier with operations in Indonesia, the Philippines, Dubai, and India.

Sri Lankan Public Sector Experience

Shan was a Sri Lankan Administrative Services (SLAS) officer chosen from an open competitive examination. He worked as an Assistant Land Commissioner at the North Eastern Province Council. In this role, he developed a project with World Bank funding and issued seventy-five thousand land permits for people who had not held permits for over twenty years.

Shan also served as an Assistant Director at the National Budget Department, General Treasury, Sri Lanka. In this role, he was in charge of preparing the national budget for the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication, Ministry of Youth Affairs, and Ministry of Estate Infrastructure and Rural Development.
